postheadericon Wonder Woman Wednesday

Well, I hate the idea of this blog going slowly into silence just like the production of the movie.

So I decided I would add Wonder Woman Wednesday to discuss wonder woman during the week, in comics, literature tv, internet and well basically any other form of media.

In the past weeks, I had the awesome experience of having Wonder Woman very actively discussed in boards, blogs, news, conferences and more, because of the recent changes to her origins and her outfit. Every single person that has ever been in touch with the character (and is still alive) has commented on the subject, be that a writer, actor, artist, journalist, etc. Which has made me really happy, as Diana is featured and talked about as much as she should be.

I’ve also learned a lot from her history, here are some specially interesting posts I’ve read:

What Wonder Woman covers tell us about ourselves

I like specially how you can tell the influence of the internet porn in the drawing of females in comics:

The 90s pre internet     |     The 90’s post internet

In other words, the internet has happened and so has internet porn reference.

Oddly enough, despise the controversy this isn’t the first time Diana has changed to a similar outfit, back in the early ninties, she was kicked out as an amazon and wore this:

Over here they pointed how the new costume resables something she used when she was a pritae…. yeah a pirate.

Meanwhile on Every day is like wednesday

Decided to take the geekery further, they reviewed some othe recent character re-invetions specilly thos that belonged to Quality Comics.

Such as Doll Man

For example, if the new Doll Man was going to be more of a G.I. Joe-like action figure, then naturally he’d have to wear a more G.I. Joe-like action figure costume than this and that meant clothing him in a generic version of some military gear.

There’s Uncle Sam. He gets a new coat, and occasionally puts his hair in a pony tail, and while it seems a bit silly to try and make Uncle Sam look cooler or more realistic, the changes are subtle enough that it’s nothing to get too bent out of shape over.

Here’s Phantom Lady, whose costume is basically a mildly Ultimized version of that of her predecessors

.

Most interesting was Newsarama’s blog who made detail account for basically every costume change ever suffered. Here are my favorites:

And interestigly it gives a light on old Jim Lee’s designs which I must admit were not shabby at all.

Jim lee had actually in charge of designing wonder woman for Stan re imagining of the character a few years ago:

Amazingly, here she also wears skin tight pants. (honestly I would have liked this series much better if they had been drawn in the 60’s Stan Lee’s and Steve Ditko’s era style.

I can just think that if internet was around the 70’s this costume re-imagination would have made the fandom INSANE!

The costume was designed by Bill Thomas (who worked on some Disney live action movies at the time)  for an unsold TV pilot for Wonder Woman that actually was really close to the powerless agent Diana Prince comics era of the moment. While I don’t really hate this costume… Actually I liked it enough to make an animated version of it:

I hope when a movie adaptation comes along, they will skip this mistake that angers the fans and jump right to the classic costume for the adaptation.

Finally this little pic has been circling around.
