Base on this style sheet I created a colored version. Both following the characters indicated in the sheet and the colors used in the comics. And even toyed around making the costumes she used in both filmation cartoons (Only the first one in the Earth 1A continuity)

This last one actually obeys to the Earth-60 (Batman 60’s TV series) continuity. Meaning she is the same catwoman played by Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt and Julie Newmar

Found these a long time ago in some forum. I assume they were on sale in eBay. But I never knew what exactly they were  maybe posters or lithographs. I would have loved to see high res versions. I am a sucker for lineups, I think it has to do with action figure collecting and the desire to see it complete.

This has been airing in cartoon network Latin America for the last few weeks. it feature the super friends being jelous of their new member Ben 10. Haven’t come across an English version of the vid or a subbed one.

Below is a design used for a SuperFriends themed stationary pad. I generally recur to stationary for inspiration when doing book layouts and websites, since they are so simple yet emblematic.

While some have argued (or just downright guess) that it belongs to Earth 1A continuity. I disagree. Not only for the personal reasons but also because I always saw it as a sad comeback / reunion of the Batman TV series.

First, It deliberately casts Adam West, Burt Ward and Frank Gorshin to reprise their roles as Batman, Robin and the Riddler. Then, it has a deliberate campy feel as the original series did (minus the charm); and although in almost everyway inferior, I think in tone and world setting, this series fits more with the Adam West series than with the SuperFriends… I mean if batman danced the Bat-tutsi at discos all over Gotham; he sure would also agree to be part of a show hosted by Ed McMahon.

Also, only Batman of the original four is present, and only Robin of the Junior Super friends is present. no Superman, no Wonder Woman, no Aquaman. There is no mention of the hall of justice, but instead the Hall of Heroes.

However the Legion of Doom is mentioned and shares some its members. Although things like Solomon Grundy’s personality, and Giganta’s engagement to the Atom lead to think it takes place somewhere else than Earth 1A.

Besides that, there is the similarity of the name to the one the actual series was might have gotten if it’d been rebranded “Battle of the Superheroes” instead of Challenge of the super friends. But does this count at all to tie it to the super friends universe?

Also like the TV Series the show was also produced by Joseph Barbera and SuperFriends creator Alex Toth actually issued some art to advertise the casting process of the series.

While I can argue that the show belongs on the Batman TV Show continuity because of tone, set and character development. It might as well fit into Earth1A as it shares some similarities. Yet neither makes a canonical reference to the show, nor does the show explicitly make a canonical reference to either series. It might be that I am missing something. I have not watched the show in years (really who watches it twice?)

When the Challenge of the Super Friends season was originally conceived, it was named “Battle of the Superheroes” and featured the introduction of Captain Marvel to the Super Friends. The group that challenged the heroes was called the “League of Evil”, led by Marvel’s nemesis Doctor Sivana. However, Filmation produced Shazam! and The New Adventures of Batman which prevented the use of characters such as Mister Atom, King Kull, Beautia Sivana, Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and Catwoman. Early conceptual art drawn by Alex Toth would also include Heat Wave, Poison Ivy, and Abra Kadabra.^[1]

This is concept art of the legion of doom by Alex Toth. I wonder if any concept art of the Super Friends with Captain Marvel actually exists. The following it’s a fan mockup I believe.

Interestingly enough Superfriends memorabilia featuring Captain Marvel was made available. (much to the dismay of Aquaman fans)

after reading some of the interviews I found that most really didn’t care about the show or the characters. Which is to be expected, the grown up comic fan is of more recent years. Most entertaining is the interview with animator Darrell McNeil who was 19 at the time he started working on the super friends, and was a fan of the characters and DC.

Along  the interview there are scans of the proposal of what would be the All- New SuperFriends Hour (Season 2). which caught my attention.

The art seems to be an collaboration between Alex Toth (who drew the original Pin-Up) and N. M. Who I suppose is Norman Maurer, who wrote the Super friends Proposal. The classic Super friends pin up now has some modifications to the Junior Super friends. At first sight I supposed the proposal included costumed super powered versions of Wendy and Marvin… and maybe even a now shape shifter / wonder dog/wonder monkey. Wouldn’t that have been cool?

However after reading the proposal it is clear that they are new characters: Dick (AKA Wonder Boy) and Jeyne (Wonder Girl) : 16 year old twin aliens from the planet Exor with Fantastic Powers, Dick can Stretch ( a la Plastic Man) and Jeyne can shape shift to any animal or object (like a boulder).

Although the characters described in the proposal obviously evolved to the Wonder twins, Major changes were made to dick which was very problematic. First Dick had the powers already shared by other two members of the Justice League. Secondly he would be the second Dick in the team as the robin back then was also Dick Grayson.

Finally I can’t help but wonder why  the art on the proposal was so similar to Wendy and Marvin. After all the proposal does state that they are aliens from another world. Yet noting alien is seen about them, if Alex Toth, a brilliant character designer, was involved at all with this version of the art I doubt this omission was intentional. Which leads me to think that at some point maybe the idea was to have Marvin and Wendy grow up a bit was on the plans, and then was scrapped but leaving behind some art that was quickly retooled with a D and a J emblems.

Came across this rather beautiful animation cell with back ground featuring Wonder Woman. I guess the Invisible plane was added later with another layer on top.

The Episode was released as a Promotional Gift on some Fisher-Price® Imaginext™ toy combos. But I never stopped wondering if indeed was an unreleased Pilot for an unmade series.
